The Selvedge Slacks are constructed from a 10oz Japanese selvedge twill developed with reference to mid-century tailoring textiles traditionally used for trousers. The fabric uses a structured cotton twill weave that provides a crisp hand while maintaining durability suitable for daily wear.
History
Before the widespread adoption of heavy denim for casual trousers, cotton twill fabrics were commonly used for workwear and tailored garments. Twill weaves were valued for their durability, resistance to tearing, and ability to drape more cleanly than plain weaves.
By the early twentieth century, cotton twill fabrics became a standard material for trousers used in both civilian tailoring and military uniforms. Their diagonal weave structure distributes stress across the fabric surface, allowing lighter weight cloths to maintain structural stability.
Fabric and Construction
The Selvedge Slacks fabric is a 10oz Japanese selvedge twill woven from 100% cotton yarns.
The diagonal twill structure produces a structured hand that allows the fabric to hold shape when pressed while remaining flexible during wear. Minor variations in yarn thickness create subtle irregularities within the weave, producing surface depth without forming pronounced slub texture.
The fabric is produced in two colorways: black and beige. At 10oz, the cloth sits between traditional denim weights and lighter tailoring twills, allowing the garment to function as both casual and structured trousers.
Details and Finishing
The fabric is woven on shuttle looms in Japan, producing a classic white selvedge edge visible along the outseam.
Both versions feature a leather patch and standard five-pocket construction. The black version uses matching black buttons and a dark patch to maintain a uniform appearance. The beige version uses neutral finishing components to match the fabric tone.
